Travel Updates

At Vodkatrain the safety of our clients is paramount. When world events occur we consult a number of sources and evaluate the situation before making any operational changes to current or upcoming itineraries. These include government advisories and the World Health Organisation appraisals, the expert and in depth knowledge of our local partners who are constantly monitoring conditions as well as assessments by our Honchos who provide an immediate response from our destinations. We always endeavour to provide an alternative that will not diminish the overall experience of your journey when itineraries have to change. In extreme situations we may choose to cancel departures.

We would encourage you to ensure that you have comprehensive insurance prior to travel and to do some research on the destinations that you are travelling to. Our Travel Advisors will happily provide you with more information as required.

St. Petersburg Metro Attack

A bomb was detonated in the St Petersburg metro on Monday 3 April 2017. Vodkatrain clients and Local Partners and staff are all safe. We will not be making any changes to our scheduled departures at this stage.  

Travellers are encouraged remain vigilant and should expect increased security measures and follow the advice of local authorities.

Travel to Turkey

Following the attempted military coup in Turkey we have made the decision to remove Turkey from our group journeys for the rest of the season. This change is effective immediately.

This will impact the Marco Polo itineraries and all clients will be contacted with alternative start / end details.

There was a suicide gun and bomb attack at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul at 9:50pm local time which has reportedly killed at least 32 people with 60 more injured. 

No clients or staff who were in Istanbul were transiting through the airport and all are safe.

We do not have any group tours scheduled to fly into Istanbul in the immediate future however we will continue to monitor events for upcoming tours and will advise clients of any amendments deemed necessary.

None of Vodkatrain groups were in Istanbul on July 7 during the last incident and all clients are safe.

The itineraries of  Marco Polo trips  have been modified reducing the amount of time spent in Istanbul. We also no longer go to Ankara. The change is  effective for the reminder of the year.

We are continuing to monitor developments in Turkey and if necessary will make decisions on further change.

Following recent incidents in Ankara and Istanbul we are no longer travelling to Ankara on our itineraries and reducing the amount of overland travel through Eastern Turkey for the remainder of the year.  In addition we will run amended sightseeing in Istanbul to avoid the city centre.

This change is effective immediately.
