When I was around 6 my parents took me on a family holiday to Fiji and I was fascinated by the whole process of travelling and the idea of seeing different countries. As I grew up I always watched planes flying overhead and wished I was on them heading off to explore somewhere new so when it came to picking a university course, tourism was an easy choice. I followed that up by working in Europe as a trip leader for a youth tour company, combining work and travel.
What do you love most about overland travel?
I'll be the first to put up my hand to say I love big cities and tourist attractions, but overland travel gives you the opportunity to see so much more of a country. When you travel overland you have the opportunity to see and meet the real people who live in the country you're visiting.
Which of the Vodkatrain destinations fascinates you most?
I will never stop being fascinated by Russia. On the one hand you have these amazing cities with beautiful architecture and surprisingly decadent metro systems and then on the other you have huge amounts of land that are completely unpopulated with Tigers roaming around.
What is your most memorable travel experience?
Hardest question ever. I will definitely never forget cage diving with Great White Sharks in South Africa.
Which Vodkatrain journeys are on your wish list and why?
Our new journey, the marco polo, looks amazing! You travel the ancient silk road route with a group of like minded young people. sounds great!
What is your favourite season to travel and why?I love summer. Always have and always will.
